Project background

School project carried out over 4 months by multidisciplinary groups of 5.
We were 3 UI/UX designers and 2 graphic designers.

This was the final project of our third year of our bachelor's degree, so the idea was that our professors would guide us by challenging our choices and pushing us further. This project was an opportunity for us to work much more independently.

S – Situation

Long Project, Semester 2. We learn that the subject is culture and heritage, and that to introduce this new project we are going to Clisson.

Visit and presentation of the Collegiate Church and its history, what are the tensions. At the end of the presentation, we are advised to walk down a few small alleys that will take us to the riverbank. From there, we can cross a stone bridge and continue along a street that is home to a very good ice cream parlour. Finally, if we take a walk in the park a little further along the path, we can find a superb Italian-style viewpoint, as designed by several men who brought back this knowledge from their travels in Italy.

Many of us were not initially very enthusiastic about the idea of walking around Clisson, but presented and guided in this way, it was a completely different experience.

And it was ultimately this approach that made an impression on us and that we sought to replicate in this project.

T – Task

How can we imagine a comprehensive cultural revitalisation experience that benefits churches?

This is the issue we defined for this project.

With three UI/UX designers and two graphic designers, we had to divide up the work. At the start, we all worked on framing the project. We spent quite a bit of time on this, but for us it was an investment: spending more time at the start would mean we would have to go back and make changes less often.

Once this stage was complete, we decided to have two people working on the design of the app and website, two on branding and corporate identity, and one versatile person who would move between the two.

Personally, I worked on the design of the app in close collaboration with the person responsible for the website design.

A – Action

To begin, I conducted the UX audit of the existing application, focusing on usability, navigation patterns, accessibility, and visual coherence. This helped us identify friction points, but also elements that were already functioning well and could be reused or improved.

We then synthesized this audit into clear takeaways, and from those insights we defined two conceptual directions. The client was presented with both options, and selected :

"Creation of a system to promote a village's cultural heritage through an interactive map and a community system."

Which we then re challenged because we realized we were already trying to answer the issue in our phrasing of it.

At that point, we had to create 2 propositions so we split the work between two teams. I collaborated closely with one UI/UX designer and one graphic designer on our idea :

“Reserve a pack and offer a local cultural experience.”

From there, I built a persona that encapsulated key needs, motivations, and pain points. This tool gave our client clarity on who they were really speaking to — and shaped every design decision that followed.

A – Action

Once the target persona was defined, I worked on mapping the user journey, identifying essential touchpoints — from discovery, to pack selection, to gifting and redemption.

I contributed to the creation of low-fidelity wireframes, and helped structure the experience around moments of emotional engagement and ease of use.

A defining moment in this phase was naming the project. I proposed the name “Présent”, which plays on a French double meaning: the present moment (time), and a gift (Old French).

This duality perfectly embodied the spirit of the product — a gift of experience, rooted in local culture, bridging the physical and digital.

This is the concept that was selected and we moved forward all together again into the refinement phase. We reworked and polished the screen designs.
I personally handled the UI design for the mobile app, building consistent components and improving the visual language based on our earlier research. We then rechallenged everything with the other 2 UI/UX designers.

On top of that, I took initiative on the business side of the project:

  • I developed a business model that detailed value exchanges between users, local partners, and the platform.

  • I created a visual document of the role of each stakeholder and defined KPIs to monitor success.

  • I also estimated potential revenue streams, allowing the client to evaluate the viability of the solution and plan future development with more confidence.

R – Results

During the presentation of this final phase of the project, after four months of work, we presented the following: 1 website allowing church members to create their own pack, with a front end allowing customers to reserve their pack. 1 app allowing customers who have made a reservation to attend various activities, take photos, etc. A physical component consisting of an invitation letter to the package with their programme, and a photo album summarising the adventure if this option was selected when purchasing the package. More generally, the opportunity to book a moment in the present to rediscover cultural heritage.

The feedback we received on this project was:

- In terms of branding and overall image, it is very consistent as a whole, well thought out and classy, but perhaps needs to be reworked to have a stronger impact.

- In terms of UI/UX, everything is well constructed, particularly the use of a persona based on a company rather than an individual.

- The business aspect may have surprised the client, who currently operates on a voluntary basis. However, our contribution was interesting and comprehensive, and the product was ready to be launched immediately if desired.
